Privacy

Short, because the site does little. It is a set of static pages over a read-only database; there are no accounts, no logins and nothing to save.

What this site collects itself

Nothing here identifies you. This site runs no account system, no newsletter and no contact form, and sets no cookie of its own. Your rig length travels in the page URL (?ft=38) so you can share or bookmark a page. It goes nowhere else and ties to nothing.

The web server keeps ordinary access logs holding an IP address, a time, the page requested and the browser. We read them to keep the site running and to spot abuse, and a schedule rotates and deletes them.

Third parties

Advertising

This site intends to carry advertising, starting with Google AdSense. It pays for the measuring, and saying so plainly is cheaper than pretending the site runs on air.

Nothing to do with advertising loads until you agree to it. Before you answer the consent notice there is no ad script, no ad frame and no ad cookie on the page — not set to expire, not set at all. That is a stricter rule than United States law asks for, and it is the same one applied everywhere rather than only to readers whose law compels it.

If you agree, Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you have consented to those specifically. Google describes its practices inHow Google uses information from sites that use its services. Later visits honour what you chose, and you can change it at any time — the notice reopens from the link in the footer, and refusing costs you nothing but the ads being less well targeted.

Advertising is the only thing on this site that reports anything about you to anyone. There is no analytics script and never will be: the traffic questions this site needs answering are answered by Google Search Console, which reports what Google already learned by crawling, and by our own server logs described above. Neither involves a script on the page watching you read.

Images

Campground photographs come from the federal Recreation.gov content network. Opening a campground page sends a request to their servers, and so does opening a campground's card on a state map, which is why a state map loads one photograph when you ask for it rather than two hundred when you arrive. Either way they see your IP address as any image host would. This domain serves everything else a page needs: the typefaces, the maps, and the pictures on the notes.

Outbound links

Booking links point to Recreation.gov. Once you follow one, their privacy policy applies.

Children

This is a reference for campground dimensions. It does not address children under 13, and it asks nobody their age.
